Mum (Jean Telford) had some old photos of Grannie Hogsett, including photos of her Great-Grandmother Betsty Powell.
Jean Telford – tribute at Mother’s funeral (Mary Hogsett)
• Molly was the eldest of 3 children, had 1 sister and 1 brother – both gone
• After school – worked at bookshop
• Married at 26 – and had twins
• Always liked kintting – won 1st prize at 9 years, socks on 4 needles
• At age 39/40 travelled to Northern Rhodesia (NR) so left family behind – no strong ties there
• Farmed in N.R. – maize, tobacco, dressed poultry
• Isolated area – only paid 1 visit back to S.A. (south Africa) in 1958 – 8 years after leaving
• We had no near neighbours
• 1967 (9 years later) packed up and left for SA in small homemade caravan.
Finally settled in E.L. (East London)
• Bruce & I & family left Zambia 1968; then in 1991 Sept Dad died and Mum decided to come to N.Z. 9 months later all her family here – June 14th 1992
• Loved knitting bootties
• Reading – very good eye sight on the whole and good hearing so that was wonderful
• Dogs – had been her passion; then CATS (at the rest home)
• * Thanks to N.Z. Govt for finance to enable her to move into rest home - Eversley*
• Was good at English language – liked writing poems – occasionally our homework sometimes came out with funny saying, especially I remember re Carols by Candlelight – having the programme on Thursday if it rains on Friday.
